Blog 1 From mermaid hair to vintage flair — here’s where my story really begins

 At the Beginning of Things

Finding Myself Again, One Vintage Thread at a Time

For years, hair was my canvas. I lived in a world of unicorn and mermaid tones—pinks that glowed, teals that shimmered, and colour melts that felt like artwork. Hairdressing was my identity, my rhythm, my daily magic.

Then life, as it sometimes does, delivered a plot twist I never saw coming.

A car accident.

A full stop in the middle of a sentence I thought I was still writing.

Recovery forced me to sit with myself—really sit—and ask, “Who am I now?”

Healing is uncomfortable, quiet, confronting. But in that stillness, something familiar tugged at me: my lifelong obsession with vintage clothing, trinkets, treasures, and the craftsmanship that whispers stories of the women who wore them before us.

So I made a choice.

I could mourn what I’d lost… or I could create again.

I could still play with colour—just through textiles instead of hair.

This is where Dolly Did It Too found its heartbeat.

Restoring vintage clothing became more than a hobby; it was a way to honour the past while giving each garment a new life, a new chapter, a new chance to be loved. But along the way, I noticed something a lot of you have already told me yourselves:

Most vintage garments are made for sizes 6–10.

That leaves so many people—so many colours, personalities, and bodies—out of the story.

And if Dolly is about anything, it’s that everyone deserves to feel expressive, bold, soft, loud, magical… whatever their version of “themselves” is.

So as we grow, our first true priority is creating a size-inclusive vintage-inspired range.

Clothing for every body.

Stories for every soul.

A brand with room for all of us.

This is just the beginning.

And I can’t wait for you to be part of it.
